“Disability does not take away your ability,” says Godfrey Kayima a versatile football player with Kawempe FC. What was a mere snake bite in 2004 turned out to be a life changer for Kayima.

A year later, he was amputated. His love for sports and football in particular was buried as he saw no way he could continue playing with his amputation.

Later he discovered amputee football and started playing again, although his stability and confidence in the field is not as it was, playing football again had helped him be able to deal with his mental health.

Kayima also preaches against stigma for amputees as it is one of the biggest riggers for mental illness.

He is appreciative to Golden Boots for organizing the Youth Mental Health tournaments where he gets to listen to people that have gone through misfortunes just as his.

Kayima will be graduating in May this year and encourages other youths out there to engage in different activities with other people so as to build confidence. “I love to motivate and challenge myself and this attitude helped my parents to remain mentally stable when I was amputated,” Kayima notes.
