Girls Lead

Promoting girl’s participation in sport and watching them not only play but excel in sports helps in removing the systematic barriers holding women and girls back in our communities.

Our girls’ soccer community programs are helping us make significant strides in advancing gender equality. We organize competitions and skills training in passing, dribbling, defense, attacking, as well as access to information on adolescent sexual reproductive health, HIV counseling and peer education.

We use sport as a platform to empower girls with leadership skills and create safe spaces for them to engage with one another, mentor each other, as well as develop friendships and strengthen relationships that help them find solutions to various societal challenges that they may face, such as gender-based violence, sexual abuse, gender norms, as well as the need for equal economic opportunities for women.

Father vs Daughter Matches

We invite Fathers to play friendly games against their daughters. Through Sport, we create dialogues between adolescent girls and their parents on the potential of a girl child aiming to end child marriage and help girls stay in school, stay healthy and have the futures they dream of.

More than 34% of girls are married before their 18th birthday every year in Uganda, and 1 in 10 is married before turning 15. – Girls Not Brides

Boys 4 Girls

The participation of women and girls in sport remains largely imbalanced when compared to participation among boys and men. The boys in our program support the consistent and continued participation of women and girls in sport. This will eventually close the big gap in the largely male dominated sport.

‘Sport has the power to change lives. By teaching women and girls teamwork, self-reliance, resilience and confidence, sport is one of the great drivers of gender equality. Women in sport defy gender stereotypes and social norms, make inspiring role models, and show men and women as equals.’
